Listen up, Space Marine. Here is your assignment:

We have reports that demonic monsters are using smoldering pentagram talismans to open interdimensional portals to teleport from their demonic realm to our world. Your job is to install this screensaver and set up an ambush for when they come through... Just kidding.

While this smoldering pentagram looks a lot like the one in the Doom 3 game, I have altered the interdimensional vector properties so that it will only open a portal from a road house mens room located just outside Dallas Texas, or maybe Chicagos South side. I cant remember which. Anyway, what could possibly go wrong?

The screen shot is of the basic pentagram shape only, and does not show the smoldering animation. The animation is somewhat dark and hypnotic, but dont worry. Ive spent hours looking at it and so far my craving for human flesh has been easily satisfied with a cheeseburger.

Remember that this is a beta version. I intend to create a new sound track for the finished version. The sound track Im using here came from my Doom 3 Rotating UAC Logo Screensaver, which is also available for download (check it out). This beta is a concept test only, so I intend to spruce it up quite a bit before Im done. However, when that will be is unknown. Feedback is appreciated.

Also, if you like my work and you take pity on me, a poor animation student, you can drop a few coins in my PayPal beggar's cup. Any amout would be fine. My books and tuition are expensive. But if you are not able to help me out, that's cool too. I'm more interested in giving you an awesome screensaver.

You can also contact me via the email address above to let me know how you like the screensaver, or if a sulfurous demonic entity comes leaping through your computer monitor. Either way, I'd appriciate the feedback.

Install Notes:

1. The program I used to port the animation as a screensaver is an older version, and may have an issue with Vista 64-bit or Windows 7 64-bit not showing the screensaver in the Screensaver dialog window. Not a big deal. I use Vista 64-bit myself, so here's what you do:

After install just select and copy (NOT cut) the file "Doom 3 Pentagram Beta 1.0.scr" from the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and paste to the C:\Windows\System32 folder. It should then show up in your screensaver dialog window and run as normal.

(This is a common fix. Many of the older 32 bit screensavers have this issue when run on 64-bit Windows platforms. Please remember, I don't have much money to buy software, which is why the screensaver software I'm using is not the latest version. I'm doing my best here, so I hope you'll make some allowances.)

2. This screensaver is optimized for widescreen monitors, though it should work fine in normal resolutions as well, at least I think so.

3. The sound will only play on systems with DirectX 6 or above. Sound can be turned off in the settings. Sorry there is no option for a volume control. Maybe if I scrape up some money I can update my software and add that option later.

Enjoy my gift to you.
